Shearwater Aircraft Ltd has been investigating and developing an
amphibian for some years. It was a difficult problem and it required a
special insight to solve them.
Richard Roake, a world class aeronautical design engineer, was invited to take a look at the problem and offered a unique solution. Richard enthusiastically agreed to complete the design and recruited the very talented Volker Heydeche to do the mechanical design work. The very best of aeronautical designers and the very best in modern computer software were being used and the dream of creating a significantly better amphibian was realised. When talent and experience are given the best tools and a free hand to create great things happen, the Shearwater 201 is one of them. The design is now complete and we are moving into the next phase of the project, the 25% scale model has been built and it started water trials in December 2008. |
